I-376 Parkway East Closure This Summer: What Mansions on Fifth Guests Need to Know
PITTSBURGH — Guests planning a stay at Mansions on Fifth should be aware that PennDOT has scheduled a full closure of I-376 Parkway East between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange (Exit 77) from July 10 through August 3, 2026. The closure sits directly alongside our Shadyside neighborhood and is part of the $95 million Commercial Street Bridge Replacement Project, which will use accelerated bridge construction techniques to laterally slide a new bridge into place — one of the largest projects of its kind in Pennsylvania.
Because Mansions on Fifth is located near this stretch of the Parkway, this closure is likely to affect how guests reach us, especially those arriving from the east — including Monroeville, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and surrounding communities.
During the 25-day closure, PennDOT will detour through traffic off I-376 at the Wilkinsburg exit (78B), reconnecting to the Parkway closer to Oakland. Local access to the Squirrel Hill and Edgewood area — including the route to our hotel — will remain open, but limited to a single lane, so delays are expected, particularly during peak travel times.
What we recommend:
Build extra time into your travel plans, especially if arriving from the east. Consider alternate approaches into Shadyside via Oakland or Fifth/Forbes Avenue if the Wilkinsburg detour is heavily congested. Check PennDOT's live detour maps before you leave, as routing may be adjusted during the closure.
Mansions on Fifth remains fully open for reservations and events throughout the closure period. Our team is happy to help guests plan the smoothest route in when booking — just reach out and we'll walk you through it.
